Dr. Dario Martin, piano
A native of Havana, Cuba, Dr. Dario Martin is a dynamic and versatile pianist whose international career spans solo performance, chamber music, and collaborative piano. A prize-winning artist, Dr. Martin has earned first prizes in prestigious piano competitions in Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, and the United States. Highlights include winning the 2018 Concerto Competition at Indiana University with a performance of Ligeti’s Piano Concerto and securing First Prize at the 2014 José Jacinto Cuevas Yamaha Piano International Competition in Mexico.
Dr. Martin has performed extensively across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. His appearances as a soloist include performances with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba, the Havana Chamber Orchestra, and the Yucatán Symphony Orchestra. Recent engagements feature recitals at the Young Pianist Series in Knoxville, the Wakkerstroom Music Festival in South Africa, masterclasses and concerts in Costa Rica, performances in France, and Austria—including Lieder recitals in Salzburg.
Currently on the piano faculty at the University of Tennessee Knoxville, Dr. Martin teaches Applied Piano Lessons, Piano Literature, Piano Pedagogy, Chamber Music, and Keyboard Skills. He previously taught at the University of Alaska Fairbanks from 2023 to 2025. During this time, he collaborated with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, the Northern Lights String Orchestra, and both faculty and guest artists. Since 2022, he has served as music director, conductor, and collaborative pianist at the Austrian-American Mozart Academy in Salzburg.
Dr. Martin earned his Doctor of Music in Piano Literature and Performance from Indiana University–Bloomington, studying under Arnaldo Cohen, with minors in Collaborative Piano and Music Education. He also holds a Performer’s Diploma and Master of Music from Southern Methodist University, where he studied with renowned pianist Joaquín Achúcarro, and a Bachelor of Music from the Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana.
An acclaimed recording artist, his debut album El Álbum de la Ciudad Celeste (2011) won the Cubadisco Award for Best Classical Solo Album. Additional recordings include Netzaj, in collaboration with trumpet player Fadev Sanjudo, and Up into the Silence, with singer Diana Fuentes. His second solo album, Juegos de Agua, was released by FT Music in Mexico. His most recent CD in collaboration with trumpet player Arthur Zanin will be released in 2026. He is a recognized legacy pianist of the Joaquín Achúcarro Foundation.
Dr. Jaunelle Celaire, voice
Lyric-soprano Jaunelle Roberta Celaire, enjoys a musical career as a teacher, soloist, conductor and performer. Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Celaire is internationally known; performing music that ranges from cabaret to music theater and from solo recitals to opera. She has made solo appearances with several orchestras across the nation including, the Maumee Symphony Orchestra and the Lima Symphony Orchestra. Other appearances include the University of Michigan Symphony Band, as Musetta, in La Bohême, and the University of Michigan Symphony, premiering the role of the Old Woman, in a One Act Blues Opera, De Organizer by James P. Johnson, performed at Orchestra Hall in Detroit, Michigan. Celaire made her debut with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra in Fairbanks, Alaska, in April 2004, singing the soprano role in Orff’s Carmina Burana, and sang Micaela in Bizet’s opera, Carmen in April 2005. A few of her roles include, Laurie in Hammerstein’s Oklahoma; Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte; Dido in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas; Mrs. Hayes in Floyd’s Susannah; Anna Gomez in Menotti’s The Consul; and as the Bystrousky in Jánacek’s Pøíhody Lisky Bystrousky, performed in Czech.
Dr. Celaire can be heard on the recording of the Second Anthology of Art Songs by Black American Composers compiled and edited by Willis C. Patterson. Although Celaire maintains an active schedule, performing, teaching and conducting, she remains dedicated to her voice studio. Her students have been successful at institutions, such as the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England and several major opera apprenticeship programs across the country. Through constant participation in the NATS Chapter in Alaska, her studio consistently claims the winners of the annual NATS Competition in Anchorage, Alaska.
Dr. Celaire joined the University of Alaska Fairbanks voice faculty in 2003. Dr. Celaire has been a guest soprano artist at several festivals, including the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival, the Rio International Cello Encounter in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and several festivals in Europe, including, the Vianden International Chamber Festival in Luxembourg, the Interharmony International Music Festival in Acqui Terme, Italy and the Innibos Music Festival in Nelspruit, South Africa. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. Currently she is in her 20th year of being Artistic Director at the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival’s Opera Program and the UAF Summer Music Academy. Her most recent accomplishments were being awarded UAF’s most prestigious Usibelli Distinguished Service Award in 2020 and being the Steve & Cynthia Holmberg Choral Director Endowed Chair in 2022! Celaire holds her degrees from Anderson University, Bowling Green State University and the University of Michigan. Her teachers include Greta Domenic, Myra Merritt and George Shirley.
